José Ignacio Jiménez González

Born in Siles (Jaén), Spain (1984). He is currently Associate Professor of Continuum Mechanics at University of Jaén.

Education

José Ignacio Jiménez González received his Mechanical Engineering degree from the Universidad de Jaén in 2009, and his MS in Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in 2010 at the same university. Additionally, he took engineering courses at University of Southern Mississippi (USM) in 2009. In July 2013 he gained a PhD degree in Engineering, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carlos Martínez-Bazán and Dr. Enrique Sanmiguel-Rojas. His PhD Thesis was devoted to study the stability of wakes behind axisymmetric blunt-based bodies and its control. He complemented his formation with stays at University Carlos III of Madrid (Spain) under supervision of Dr- Alejandro Sevilla, and since 2010, he has continously visited the Institut de Mécanique des Fluides de Toulouse (IMFT).

Besides, he has been a scientific visitor at the Institut des Sciences de la Mécanique et Applications Industrielles (IMSIA) at ENSTA ParisTech (France), the Institut für Strömungsmechanik und Aerodynamik (Budeswehr University, Munich), and at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Tarragona, Spain), collaborating with Dr. F.J. Huera-Huarte. From 2016, he is also Invited Lecturer (Maître de Conferénces Invité) at the Université de Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier (France).

Interests

His research mainly focuses on characterization and stability of wakes behind blunt base bodies and its control, and vortex-induced vibrations. Besides, he works on hydrodynamic stability of jets and optimal perturbation within the frame of collaboration with the IMFT (France), and has also worked on boundary layer instabilities at the Bundeswehr University of Munich. He performs experimental and numerical work.

He has been recently appointed as member of the Steering Committee of the new ERCOFTAC Special Interest Group (SIG) on 3D Wakes
